Calls Needed Now to Keep Labor Bill off Agenda

August 5, 2009

The Senate is coming back to Albany… again.

Legislative Session for the Senate has been scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 6, to take up a number of bills—we simply can’t let the Omnibus Farmworker Labor Bill be one of them.  The bill has already passed the Assembly and the big unions and farm labor advocates are pushing hard for a Senate vote on Thursday. The New York City newspaper, The Daily News, just printed another editorial calling for this bill—without any understanding of our family farms.

We need you to call your Senator now to strongly express your opposition to this legislation (S. 2247) and ask that the bill not be voted upon in the Senate.  You may have called already, and we understand that calls can be tiring, especially as the weather has been so challenging. However, we can’t be complacent and NYFB wouldn’t ask you to call unless we felt it necessary.

Call the Senate Switchboard number at (518) 455-2800 and ask for your Senator to discuss this issue before Thursday. Thank you in advance for your help—it is Farm Bureau’s grassroots action that will give us our best chance to defeat this bill!
